ChemoCentryx, Inc., San Carlos, Calif., is being awarded a $5,677,082 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for research and development of pathogen countermeasures and advanced medical diagnostics having greatest impact on the protection of personnel during military operations. Wallace L. Boldt, General Contractor Inc.*, San Antonio, Texas, is being awarded a $5,260,000 firm-fixed-price contract for construction of a new Veterinary Care Instructional Facility. The contractor will build a new one-story building, approximately 32,000 sq. feet in area, to include office, instructional and veterinary care (animal handling and medical treatment) spaces. Construction includes concrete foundation and floor slab; steel structural framing; modified bitumen membrane and concrete tile roofing; steel stud exterior and interior wall framing; limestone veneer and EIFS (exterior insulation and finish system) wall finish; drywall, ceramic tile and fiber-reinforced plastic interior wall finish; drywall and acoustical lay-in ceiling finishes; and carpet, ceramic tile and resilient floor finishes. The project includes demolition of existing building structures and associated hazardous and toxic waste disposal. Site work includes draining ponds and structures, chain link and decorative fencing, concrete walks and curbs, asphalt paving, and turfing with minimal landscaping. Work will be performed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and is expected to be completed by Oct. 9, 2002. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
