TRI Training Registration

Web-based Basic Concepts | Web-based Advanced Concepts | Live Workshops | List of Courses

Participants are expected to download, print, and bring a copy of the course materials to the workshop.

If you are new to preparing TRI reports, or if your facility is reporting for the first time, you should consider attending a live full-day workshop or taking both the the introductory and advanced Web -based courses.  To determine which course is best suited for you, the following topics will be discussed in each:

Web-based Basic Concepts

You will need Adobe Reader to view some of the files on this page. See EPA's PDF page to learn more.

This course will help you determine:

• if your facility is covered by EPCRA Section 313 (the Toxics Release Inventory),
• if your facility is covered, for which chemicals your facility must submit a TRI report
• and, how to report to TRI.

You will also learn about:

• Information and examples on making the release and other waste management calculations and estimates for the Form R.
• When the Form A Certification statement can be used instead of the Form R.
• TRI reporting exemptions (particular uses of TRI chemicals that do not have to be included in TRI reporting).
• General TRI program and process information.
• How to use the TRI Made Easy (TRI-ME) software, TRI-MEweb online tool, and the CDX electronic submission process. View a brief online TRI-MEweb demonstration.

Web-based Advanced Concepts

If you have already determined that your facility must report to TRI, this course will help you understand:

• Advanced issues related to threshold determinations, TRI reporting, and exemptions.
• Information on reporting requirements for PBTs (such as lead, mercury, PACs, etc.) and other chemicals (such as hydrochloric and sulfuric acid aerosols, ammonia, metal compounds nitrate compounds, and metal cyanides) with special TRI reporting considerations.
• General TRI program and process information.
• How to use the TRI Made Easy (TRI-ME) software, TRI-MEweb online tool, and the CDX electronic submission process. This will include an online TRI-MEweb demonstration.

TRI Advanced Concepts Training Materials

Live Workshops

The live full-day workshops will cover all the topics discussed above (Basic Concepts and Advanced Concepts), including the online TRI-MEweb demonstration. Please download and print both the TRI Basic Concepts Training Slides and the TRI Advanced Concepts Training Slides from EPA's TRI training page.

Live Half Day Advanced Concepts Workshops

In some Regions, half-day advanced workshops are also offered for those who have previously reported to TRI, but who would like to learn more. Half-day workshops take place in the afternoon, following the Basic Concepts modules. Topics are similar to the Web-Based Advanced Concepts course, described above. Please download and print the TRI Advanced Concepts Training slides from EPA's TRI training page.

Region 8 EPCRA/TRI LIVE Workshops

These workshops offered by EPA Regions 8 will cover the basics of TRI reporting, as well as related regulatory requirements under EPCRA concerning hazardous chemical spills, releases, and storage. There will also be some discussion of risk management planning requirements under the Clean Air Act. The Region 8 Live Trainings are introductory in nature.

Region 7 and 8 EPCRA/TRI Web-based Workshops

These web-based workshops offered by EPA Regions 7 and 8 will cover the basics of TRI reporting, as well as related regulatory requirements under EPCRA concerning hazardous chemical spills, releases, and storage. There will also be some discussion of risk management planning requirements under the Clean Air Act.

Note: Space is limited! Please register for the workshops in advance. Please also plan to arrive one half hour early to the workshops to sign in.  Live workshop times are in the local time.  You can click on the live training location to view a map of the area and get driving directions. When registering for web-based training, please make note of the time zoneand plan accordingly if you are located in a different time zone.

Until April 1, 2009, please register for classes in your Region only. In the event that you are unable to register on-line for courses in your Region prior to April 1st, call your Regional TRI coordinator.
