Research Project: The National Late Blight Trial

Location: Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables

Project Number: 1275-21000-190-18
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 01, 2008
End Date: May 30, 2009

Objective:
To evaluate advanced potato breeding selections for their reaction to foliar late blight in Michigan.

Approach:
Advanced potato breeding selections from publicly funded U.S. potato breeding programs and standard check varieties will be planted in the field in a randomized complete block design. No fungicides will be applied to these trials. Plots may or may not be inoculated with Phytophthora infestans. Foliar disease ratings will be made several times after the first appearance of late blight. Data will be furnished to the USDA/ARS potato breeding program in Beltsville for analysis.
