Research Project: Establishment and Increase of Foundation Quality Seed of Potential New Usda/ars Potato Varieties

Location: Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables

Project Number: 1275-21000-190-17
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 27, 2008
End Date: Apr 30, 2013

Objective:
To put into tissue culture and rid of virus advanced selections from the ARS Potato Breeding Program and to maintain and increase seed of these advanced selections.

Approach:
Culture plantlets on various media to induce organogenesis and rooted plantlets. Apply ELISA tests to detect potential latent virus infections. Nodal cuttings will be used to increase plantlets and produce microtubers. Plantlets, microtubers, and minitubers will be planted in the field for seed increases of pathogen-free stocks of advanced clones for further evaluation.
