Research Project: Tropical Cover Crops for Plant-Parasitic Nematode Suppression in Southern Florida

Objective:
1) Evaluate tropical cover crops for root-knot nematode suppression; and 2) measure changes in soil chemical properties, microbial communities and plant chemistry to identify mechanisms of nematode suppression.

Approach:
Conduct microplot experiments involving the incorporation of tropical cover crops in soil infested with root-knot nematode in order to determine effects upon nematode populations, soil properties, microbial communities, and crop yield.
