EPA started this program in 1999 as our way of saying "Thank You" to all the groups and individuals working outside EPA walls on behalf of the environment. Since then, we have given awards to hundreds of groups and individuals including teachers, businesses, Indian tribes, and environmental activists. The common theme amongst all of these recipients is a passion for helping the planet. All of them work long and hard, often with no pay, incentive or even thanks, to make the world a safer place for our children, and our children's children.
