Eastern Neck Salt Marsh Restoration and Monitoring

A unique partnership between the NOAA Restoration Center and the National Aquarium in Baltimore is working to restore a 4-acre unvegetated salt marsh at the Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge by planting Spartina alterniflora. The project uses cutting edge water quality monitoring technology, extensive community participation in hands on restoration work to conserve vital wetland habitat. The work includes water quality monitoring techniques to monitor for vegetation attributes and for topographical and fisheries use parameters. Volunteers are trained to collect and manage information and provide scientific data for use in evaluating wetland success.
