New Content 2009 Region 4 Regulatory Modelers Workshop Conference March 17-19, 2009

The 2009 Region 4 Regulatory Modelers Workshop was held at the Atlanta Federal Center on March 17-19, 2009. Presentations included: AERMOD Application Experiences, State Update on Class I Area Permitting, SIP Modeling Updates from States, and Regional Haze SIP Development.

Air dispersion modeling involves using numerical techniques based on physical principles to simulate the dispersion of natural and man-made pollutant emissions in space and time. Pollutant concentrations in the air can then be estimated. These computer software applications are used by decision makers to determine the effect of air pollution on the surrounding ambient air. The model results are used for air quality planning, air toxics exposure and risk studies, evaluating the placement of air quality monitors, permitting, and demonstrating attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
