Visitors to the Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL) must follow security procedures as set by USDA and ARS Homeland Security. Anyone who does not have a USDA photo identification card must obtain a visitor's badge and wear it, clearly visible, at all times while on site.  Visitors to Building 005 must go to the desk in the front lobby of Building 003 to check in between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Visitors that will remain for a period greater than 2 weeks must obtain a temporary photo identification badge. For more detailed information, see the BARC Short Term Visitors Policy.

Metro

Take the train to the Greenbelt Station on the Green Line. Take a taxi or metro bus #89 to the Research Center on Route 1 at Circle Drive. The USDA Shuttle is available for visitors that have a letter showing they are expected that day.

Take I-95 to the Capital Beltway (I-95/495 South) toward Richmond and College Park.[Alternatively, take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295) South to the Capital Beltway (I-95/495) North toward Baltimore.]

Take I-66 East or I-270 South to the Capital Beltway(I-495).
Take I-495 East toward Baltimore and Silver Spring.

Driving from WASHINGTON, D.C. (Northeast/Southeast)

Take Rhode Island Avenue (U.S. 1) North (becomes Baltimore Avenue). Continue on U.S. 1 through College Park. You will cross an overpass over the Capital Beltway (I-495).
A traffic signal is located just after the overpass -- count this as the 1st signal.
After the 2nd traffic signal, immediately get into the left lane. You will see the 14-story National Agricultural Library ahead on the right.
At the 3rd traffic signal, turn left onto South Drive.
Turn 1st right onto Circle Drive. The 3rd building on the left is Building 003, where visitors (other than USDA employees) must sign in and obtain a visitor's badge. Continue to follow Circle Drive to Building 005, the 5th building on the left. Parking is available on Circle Drive and to the side and rear of Building 005.

Local Directions

Take Exit 25 onto Route 1 North (Baltimore Avenue). As soon as the ramp brings you onto Route 1, start counting traffic signals.  After the 2nd traffic signal, immediately get into the left lane.
