St. Paul Island: TPA Site 9o Former Gasoline/Diesel Drum Storage

Excavator grades site
The Former Drum Storage Site during final site grading.

The Former Drum Storage Site is located on the northeastern prominence of Village Hill in the City of St. Paul.  Drums of gasoline and diesel stored on the site filled the tanks at the AST Saddles Complex using a funnel and pipelines.  Once fuel transfer operations at the site ceased, the pipelines served the City of St. Paul as an electrical line conduit.

Corrective action activities for the Former Drum Storage Site were initiated on July 7, 2003 and completed on July 18, 2003. Approximately 1,160 cubic yards of petroleum-contaminated soils were removed from the excavation area.  Twelve confirmation samples were collected from the excavation and sent to a fixed laboratory for analysis.  On October 1, 2004, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation granted NOAA no further action status for this site.
