friendly page] Indiana Methamphetamine Trafficker APR 16 -- (Terre Haute, IN) Brian S. Smith, 37, of Terre Haute, Indiana has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Larry J. McKinney to 240 months in prison as a result of a guilty plea for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Smith’s sentencing is the result of a joint law enforcement investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in Western Indiana. The investigation conducted by the DEA and Clay County Sheriff’s Department involved an undercover purchase of methamphetamine from Smith at the Howard Johnson’s hotel in Brazil, Indiana on January 25, 2007. When Smith arrived at the parking lot to complete the illegal drug transaction, he was taken into custody by law enforcement and a search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of 197.9 grams of methamphetamine. Another vehicle associated with Smith was located by law enforcement near the intersection of Hulman and South Fourth Streets, and an additional 441.7 grams of methamphetamine was found inside that vehicle. “Methamphetamine is a dangerously addictive stimulant that destroys individuals, families, and society,” stated Gary G. Olenkiewicz, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Chicago Field Division which covers the state of Indiana. “The DEA is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to keep this poison out of our communities.” The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S Attorney Bradley Blackington, who stated that Judge McKinney also imposed five years supervised release following Smith’s release from imprisonment. Smith will also be subject to random urinalysis and random searches of his person, vehicle, and residence during the period of supervised release.
