Steven W. Derr, a native of Pennsylvania, currently serves as the Special Agent in Charge of the New England Field Division, which consists of the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Mr. Derr is a graduate of Shippensburg University where he earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Administration of Justice.
Mr. Derr began his career with the Drug Enforcement Administration in March 1983 in the Philadelphia Field Division. Mr. Derr served as a criminal investigator in San Diego, California; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Miami, Florida; and Mexico City, Mexico. In May 1996, Mr. Derr reported to Baltimore, Maryland where he supervised a Task Force group of DEA agents and state and local officers which focused on the investigation of violent drug trafficking organizations. In September 1999, Mr. Derr reported to DEA headquarters in Washington, D.C. where he served as a Staff Coordinator in the Operations Division, Office of Operations Management.
In January 2001 Mr. Derr was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Albuquerque District Office, El Paso Field Division. Mr. Derr was responsible for the investigative and program responsibilities of DEA within the state of New Mexico. In June 2004 Mr. Derr returned to DEA headquarters where he served in the Operations Division, Office of Financial Operations as the Deputy Chief. In June 2006 Mr. Derr was appointed to the Senior Executive Service and he served as the Deputy Chief of Operations, Office of Operations Management, where he was responsible for the operations budget, state and local programs, the asset forfeiture program, as well as operational policy and procedure. In January 2009, Mr. Derr reported to Boston as Special Agent in Charge of the New England Field Division. Mr. Derr is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Sheriff’s Association, as well as other state and local law enforcement organizations.
