New employee orientation programs are designed to assist new employees in adjusting to their jobs and work environment and to instill a positive work attitude and motivation. The main objective is to provide information that will help employees understand:
  • Bureau and Department of the Interior missions
  • Functions and responsibilities of their units
  • Conditions of Federal employment

Supervisors should conduct a timely, thorough, and meaningful job induction for new employees assigned to their organization, and also ensure that employees attend mandatory orientation programs (e.g., substance abuse awareness, safety and health, etc.).

Some Bureaus have formalized New Employee Orientation Programs. If you have questions regarding new training technologies for new employee orientations, please contact your Human Resources Consultant.
