What is the Online Catalog

EPA's Online Library System (OLS) is the combined catalog of all 28 EPA libraries, including the RCEI. It consists of several related databases that can be used to locate books, reports, and audiovisual materials on a variety of topics. The material on OLS is updated every two weeks, and may be searched in many ways, such as by title, author, and keyword.

How to Search OLS

OLS is available at http://www.epa.gov/natlibra/ols.htm . You have the option of performing either a basic or advanced search. We recommend using the basic search feature.

OLS is EPA's national catalog. If you want to limit your search specifically to items held by the RCEI in Philadelphia, please do the following:

  1. Find the list of libraries. It is prefaced with Limit Search to a Specific Library.
  2. Select Region 3 Library/Philadelphia, PA from the list.
  3. Enter your search terms and click the Submit Search button

What Do I Do With My Results

If you find a citation to a book, document, or journal of interest to you, check the Owner Libraries field of the citation. Items marked Philadelphia, PA are available from the RCEI. Feel free to visit us to review these materials. Please email or telephone (215.814.5254) us before you do so to ensure that the items are not already in circulation to other patrons. Most items in the RCEI can be borrowed for your use via interlibrary loan by your local public, school, university or corporate library.

If the holdings field indicates the item is held by another EPA library, you may also visit it, contact it, or request the item via interlibrary loan through your public, school, university or corporate library.
