The Office of Personnel
Management has consolidated student employment programs into one streamlined, flexible
program that serves as a tool to assist agencies in building a diverse work force. The new
program consists of two components: 1. Student Career Experience Program 2. Student Temporary Employment Program Student Career Experience Program students are hired to work in their academic field. Students appointed under this authority may be noncompetitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of completion of their academic program. Tuition assistance is available for all or part of the training expenses. The student may be required to sign a written training agreement to continue employment in the component or agency for a specified period of time before accepting tuition assistance. The Student Temporary Employment Program provides flexibility to appoint students on a temporary basis (not to exceed one year) to jobs that may or may not be related to the student's academic field. The bureau may fund job-related training expenses. |
