There are two primary Federal retirement
systems, the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and CSRS-offset and the Federal
Employees Retirement System (FERS). Both provide retirement pensions, disability income
and survivors benefits. Most Federal civilian employees are covered by one of these
two retirement systems. |

To gain a better understanding of the systems,
you should visit the Office of Personnel
Management (OPM) Retirement Programs Home Page. You can also get information on coverage, creditable service, contributions, retirement eligibility, and computing benefits from the CSRS and FERS Handbook. Specific questions regarding your retirement coverage should be directed to your Servicing Personnel Office. RELATED TOPICS: Federal Employees Benefits |
