Research Project: ABSORPTION AND METABOLISM OF ESSENTIAL MINERAL NUTRIENTS

Location: Children's Nutrition Research Center (Houston, Tx)

Project Number: 6250-51000-045-02
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 01, 2005
End Date: Sep 30, 2010

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research is to provide unique information regarding the regulation of mineral requirements by genetic, hormonal, and developmental factors. Evaluate the Absorption and Utilization of Minerals in the Diets of Toddlers and Small Children - Relatively little information is available regarding the mineral nutritional needs of children from 12 to 48 months of age. Dietary recommendations for minerals have frequently been made based on data in infants, older children, or in many cases, adults.

Approach:
Evaluate the Absorption and Utilization of Minerals in the Diets of Toddlers and Small Children - Assess the utilization of 5 key minerals in the diets of toddlers and small children using stable isotope methods.
