Research Project: Re-Establishing Native Plant Diversity in Crested Wheatgrass Stands in the Great Basin

Location: Burns, Oregon

Project Number: 5360-11630-006-01
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: May 01, 2005
End Date: Sep 30, 2009

Objective:
1)Determine the effect of crested wheatgrass control methodologies and revegetation on crested wheatgrass density and cover. 2) Determine the effect of crested wheatgrass control methodologies and revegetaiton on establishment of native species. 3) Determine the effects of crested wheatgrass control methodologies and native plant establishment on soil nitrogen and water content.

Approach:
This research will attempt to establish native plant species into an existing crested wheatgrass monoculture. Crested wheatgrass will be disturbed by two different methods at two different intensities. A suite of native species will be seeded following crested wheatgrass control treatments. Following treatments, the plant community will be sampled for treatment effects. Documents Reimbursable with Forest Service. Log 29098. Formerly 5360-11630-005-03R (8/08).
