Issues: Youth driven programs for mitigating the spread of HIV/AIDS is proving to be effective. Youth in Zambia have scaled up efforts by designing programs for their follow young people. Zambian young people are faced with enormous challenges with regard to lack of information on reproductive health, survival skills and behavior change initiatives. Description: The "fully alive" program initiated and carried out by Youth Alive Zambia (YAZ) is an initiative, which emanated from intensive training of youth from the grassroots in materials development. Training and supervision was closely related to actual psychosocial, emotional, spiritual and psychomotor needs of the young people. To date, over 200,000 young people have gone through the life skills program, with most of the program materials coming in form of local contribution. The program has been implemented on networking basis. Lessons learnt: Youth involvement in design and implementation of programs targeted at other youth can have some significant impact In the fight against HIV/AIDS.
