Q. I see that Olmsted NHS is currently closed for construction. What is being done at the park?

A. The construction project will upgrade our fire suppression, museum climate, and site drainage systems.

Q. When will you reopen?

A. We currently anticipate that the site will re-open to visitors in 2010. Please check our web site for more up-to-date information in the future.

Q. Will the Park offer any programs for the public during the closure?

A. Park Rangers will continue to offer a variety of off-site programs for both the general public and special groups. These will include interpretive walks of local Olmsted landscapes, slide lectures, and special programs with local partners.

Q. Can I get my NPS Passport Book stamped during the closure?

A. Public accessibility to the site during construction will be very limited. Please call ahead at 617-566-1689 and park staff may be able to arrange to have your book stamped. Upon request, we can also mail a piece of paper with the stamp on it if you wish. You may prefer waiting to have your Book stamped after the site re-opens, when you can visit the site and have a tour.

Q. What is the status of the Olmsted Archives? Can people still do research?

A. The Olmsted Archives is currently available on a limited basis for use by researchers during the park closure. To protect the Olmsted archives and museum collections during construction, we have relocated many materials to a temporary storage location off-site. Limited research visits may be arranged by advance appointment.

Q. Where is the staff of Olmsted NHS going to be located during the construction?

A. The majority of the staff will be located at other NPS locations in the area. A few staff will be present at Olmsted NHS Monday through Friday.
