NEWS Federal Communications Commission 1919 - M Street N.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 This is an unofficial announcement of Commission action. Release of the full text of a Commission order constitutes official action. See MCI v. FCC 515 F 2nd 385 (D.C. Circ 1974). August 1, 1996 STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN REED HUNDT REGARDING THE NOMINATION OF REGINA KEENEY TO THE FCC I am extremely pleased that President has nominated Gina Keeney to be a Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. To my knowledge, Gina is the first career employee at the FCC to be nominated as Commissioner. This history-making nomination could not be better timed. Gina's experience as Chief of two bureaus, Wireless and Common Carrier, would be invaluable to our deliberations as Commissioners in furtherance of the extraordinary responsibilities delegated to us under the Telecommunications Reform Act of 1996. In addition, as a brilliant and able lawyer who has served as Republican Counsel to the Senate Commerce Committee and a lawyer in private practice, she has both the experience and acumen to bring new distinction and invaluable wisdom to the Commission. I also believe it is in the best interest of all concerned to have the Commission at full strength as we continue to pursue our goal of beating and not just meeting our deadlines for action under the Act. -FCC-
