News From the Field UH Initiative Will Use 'Harry Potter' to Conjure Love for Science in Houston-area Schools

Hoping that science will cast a spell on local middle and high school students, a University of Houston (UH) team is starting a program that will harness the magical draw of the Harry Potter series to make technical subjects resonate in local classrooms. The initiative will pair teachers from the Houston, Dickinson and Galena Park school districts with graduate students from two UH colleges.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2009, its budget is $9.5 billion, which includes $3.0 billion provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
