(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- U.S. Senate Indian Affairs Committee Chairman Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Vice Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) at the nomination hearing for Dr. Yvette Roubideaux on April 23. On Thursday, April 30, the committee voted unanimously to approve the nomination and send it to the full Senate for a vote. If confirmed by the full Senate, Roubideaux will become the first Native American woman to head the Indian Health Service, an achievement Dorgan described as “an historic event.”

INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE NOMINEE WINS UNANIMOUS APPROVAL FROM SENATE INDIAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
WASHINGTON, DC - (WASHINGTON, D.C.) --- The Senate Indian Affairs Committee, in a unanimous voice vote Thursday, approved the nomination of Dr. Yvette Roubideaux to be Director of the Indian Health Service (IHS). Her nomination now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
If Dr. Roubideaux wins full Senate approval, she will become the first Native American woman to head the Indian Health Service, an achievement Dorgan described at the hearing as an “historic event.”
