Current Analytical Services at Superfund Sites
EPA provides several types of analytical services at Superfund sites, which can be categorized into four main areas:
- The National
Contract Laboratory Program provides high-volume standard
analyses for non-complex matrices. This program produces nationally
consistent data of known and documented quality and enables quick
access to on-demand commercial laboratory capacity.
- Regional
Analytical Services from a variety of sources provide
non-standard parameters using established technologies for complex
matrices. Through regional oversight and quality assurance, flexibility
in the menu of services is offered at costs that are based on
the requirements of the analysis.
- Field
Analytical Services provide on-site identification and
screening of hazardous substances. The types of services in this
category enable quick turnaround results at a lower cost due to
lower documentation and quality control requirements.
- EPA Laboratories for Research and Development provide services for complex requirements involving emerging technologies. This category of analytical services, which is generally characterized by higher cost, includes methods development and establishment of new environmental standards.
