In 2005, in addition to reporting results for the national sample of students, NAEP reported on the performance of grade 4 and 8 students at the state level. In 2005, 44 states and one jurisdiction (DoDEA) participated at grades 4 and 8. Explore the number of schools and students who participated at the state level at grades 4 and 8.

To help place state results in context, look at the following additional information:

• percentages of students identified, excluded, and assessed at the state level;
• target population and sample sizes;
• school-age resident population and enrollment;
• poverty status of school-age children and children served under Individuals with Education Act and Chapter 1, from non-NAEP sources: By state, 2001 and school years 1990-91 through 2000-01; and
• education expenditures per pupil, annual salaries of teachers, and pupil-teacher ratios.
