Research Project: Finding Scald Control Tools Using Apple Peel Chemistry

Location: Wenatchee, Washington

Project Number: 5350-43000-005-19
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: May 01, 2009
End Date: Apr 30, 2010

Objective:
Continue to compile a comprehensive metabolic library for apple. Find metabolic markers that diagnose and predict superficial scald prior to symptom development. Link metabolites to genes that provoke or reduce scald.

Approach:
Apples will be stored or treated in various fashions that are known to affect scald incidence and development. Comprehensive metabolic profiling, using GC-MS and LC-MS, linked with transcriptomic profiling will be used to continue to link metabolites, genes, and metabolic processes to scald development. Documents Trust with WTFRC. Log 37988.
