Research Project: The Effects of Nutrition on Colony Health in Hives Introduced for Cranberry Pollination

Objective:
Determine the effects of supplemental feeding on colony health in hives introduced for cranberry pollination.

Approach:
Colonies will be evaluated for brood and adult populations, and protein and lipid levels prior to and after being introduced to cranberry bogs for pollination. While in cranberries groups of 24 colonies will be exposed to different feeding treatments. Pollen from colonies also will be collected and tested for effects on bee longevity.
