Research Project: Integrated Management and Regional GIS Mapping of the Cucurbit Yellow Stunting Disorder Virus-Vector Complex in the Desert Southwest

Objective:
Determine incidence, distribution and host range of CYSDV in CA and AZ melon production regions, identify and integrate new sources of resistance into melon and identify methods to effectively reduce disease development and reduce losses.

Approach:
Weed and crop samples will be collected and tested for the presence of CYSDV; maps will be generated to determine distribution and movement of the virus in the affected region using GIS and other systems; natural and experimental host range will be determined for crops and weeds in the desert production region; germplasm evaluation will be conducted at field sites in AZ and CA, as well through greenhouse analysis. Grower meetings will be held periodically to facilitate information transfer. Documents Trust with U of AZ. Log 36082.
