Research Project:
Biological Control of White Peach Scale on Papaya: Host Range Testing of Encarsia Parasitoids
Project Number: 5320-43000-014-21
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Nov 01, 2007
End Date: May 18, 2009
Objective:
To control white peach scale in papaya in Hawaii using imported parasitoids.
Approach:
Two parasitic wasps, Encarsia berlesei and E. diaspidicola have been imported into Hawaii for biological control of the papaya pest Pseudaulacaspis pentagona (white peach scale). Work will be conducted in quarantine to determine if the wasps are host specific and whether they carry hyperparasites. Upon approval for field release, studies will be conducted to evaluate establishment of the wasps and any reduction in scale populations. Documents Trust with State of HI. Log 34493.
