Research Project:
POSTHARVEST CONTROL OF NAVEL ORANGEWORM
Location: Commodity Protection and Quality
Project Number: 5302-43000-034-05
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Oct 01, 2007
End Date: Dec 31, 2011
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to evaluate three areas of navel orangeworm control: augmentation of sanitation using biological and chemical agents, determine the mortality rate of the overwintering population, and improve prediction of flight activity by determining the development rate in pistachio varieties.
Approach:
Continue to evaluate biological and chemical methods to augment sanitation to control navel orangeworm as well as quantify the scope of this problem. Additional studies will emphasize efficacy and persistence, and new studies will continue in late February and early March in Madera and Tulare counties. These studies will be repeated at S&J Ranch using approximately 240 acres. Overwintering mortality and emphasis on egg survival will be evaluated. Determine if differences in NOW development rate exist in Lost Hills and Gold Hills pistachio varieties. These studies will also evaluate survival. Documents Trust with Resnick Foundation. Log 34056.
