Research Project: Relating Spatial Patterns of Vegetation and Soil Properties with Runoff and Erosion on Ecological Sites in Southeastern Arizona

Location: Southwest Watershed Research

Project Number: 5342-12660-004-03
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 12, 2006
End Date: Sep 11, 2011

Objective:
To quantify the relationship between the spatial patterns of soil and vegetation characteristics and runoff and erosion.

Approach:
Spatial data of vegetation and soil characteristics will be collected as part of a rainfall simulator experiment on ecological sites in southeastern Arizona. These data will be analyzed to develop relationships among runoff, erosion, microtopography, and vegetation and soil cover. The data will also be used to test the hypothesis that the spatial patterns of vegetation and soil characteristics are related to types and states of ecological sites. Documents SCA with U of AZ.
