Research Project:
IMPROVED RESISTANCE TO S. SCLEROTIORUM IN PEA AND LENTIL THROUGH BREEDING AND BIOTECHNOLOGY
Location: Grain Legume Genetics Physiology Research
Project Number: 5348-21000-024-08
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: May 11, 2005
End Date: May 10, 2009
Objective:
The objectives of this research are: 1) to identify sources of resistance in pea (Pisum sativum L.) to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the causal organism of white mold and 2) introduce resistance into pea and lentil by transferring the oxalate oxidase gene into pea and lentil via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation.
Approach:
Identification of sources of resistance will be conducted in field plots in both ND and WA. Artificial inoculation will be applied if necessary. Disease development and progression within the lines being screened will be recorded and data summarized to determine the relative level of resistance to control genotypes.
