Transmission Agency of Northern California Transmission Project

The Transmission Agency of Northern California and Western propose to coordinate development of the proposed TANC Transmission Project, which includes new and upgraded 230-kV and 500-kV transmission lines, substations, and related facilities.  The Project would provide new access to renewable energy resources in northern California, northwestern Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest, enhance the California-Oregon Intertie, reduce existing congestion and system losses, increase the load-carrying capability and reliability of northern California’s transmission system, improve the reliability of Western's existing Balancing Authority Area, and relieve existing electrical transmission system constraints in northern California.

While details and plans for the proposed Project and alternatives are still being developed and refinements will continue through the public scoping process, the proposed Project would consist of five segments of transmission line corridors that generally extend from northeastern California through the Central Valley and split westward to the San Francisco Bay area and eastward to the Sierra foothills. As more information becomes available, we will post it on this site.  Check back often for updates throughout the environmental process.

Scoping Comment Period Extended

Western and the Transmission Agency of Northern California have heard your requests for more time to submit scoping comments on the preliminary proposed TTP study areas. As a result, we have chosen to formally extend the public comment period for the TTP Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) scoping process by an additional 31 days.

EIR/EIS scoping comments are now accepted through May 31, 2009.

To help define the scope of the EIS/EIR, comments should be received by Western no later than May 31, 2009. Anonymous comments will not be accepted. Comments may be submitted by fax, e-mail, or U.S. Postal Service mail. Written comments on the scope of the EIS should be addressed to
