Support for Small Research Collaborations

The National Science Foundation funds collaborations with universities, school districts, and other partners to expand knowledge in all fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. These collaborations strengthen science and engineering education at all levels and encourage broad participation in the sciences.

Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Effective

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • The program has documented its efficiency since it was first assessed. In 2004 - 2007 the program exceeded its goal in informing applicants whether their proposals have been declined or recommended for funding within six months of proposal receipt, while maintaining a credible and efficient merit review system.
  • Because the NSF Small Research Collaborations budget investment category no longer exists, results will be reported beginning in FY 2007 for the percentage of proposals from academic institutions not in the top 100 of NSF funding recipients for proposals managed by the Directorate for Education and Human Resources as a whole.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Strengthening performance goals and improving how the agency monitors performance against those goals.
  • NSF will develop new ways and measures to monitor its efforts to broaden participation in this and other programs.
