Research Project: Identifying Biomarkers Associated with Poultry Leg/skeletal Problems

Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas

Project Number: 6226-32000-010-02
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Aug 01, 2006
End Date: Jun 30, 2009

Objective:
The objective of this project is to explore and identify cellular and molecular biomarkers associated with tibial dyschondroplasia and femoral head necrosis that could serve as selection markers against these diseases.

Approach:
We propose to analyze the hematological, clinical chemistry, and protein profiles of blood and serum from birds with clinically identified bone problems along with age matched control birds from production using CellDyn, clinical chemistry analyzer, gel and capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometric techniques. Our goal is to discover biomarkers associated with these diseases.
