Research Project: Development of Functional Genomic and Immunologic Approaches to Control Avian Mucosal Pathogens

Location: Animal Parasitic Diseases

2008 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To evaluate the adjuvant effects of Seppic's immunomodulators in poultry immune system.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Broiler chickens will be treated with Seppic's immunomodulators and the effects on avian immune response to mucosal pathogens will be evaluated using established disease parameters and various immunological assays.

3.Progress Report
Using novel immunoadjuvant formulation that the Seppic developed to elicit cell-mediated immunity in chickens, ARS scientists will investigate the immunostimulating effects on recombinant vaccine response. Trust paperwork is still in progress and work has not started yet. This is a new trust agreement which was developed in 2007 with the Seppic company in France.

Work progress is monitored by regular teleconferences, meetings and formal written progress reports.
