Preface

The Cookbook for Cleaner AirThe Cookbook for Cleaner Air is a guide to bringing together the critical ingredients within local communities to launch a voluntary clean air initiative. Businesses, concerned citizens, industry leaders, environmentalists, and regulators can come together in innovative ways to bring about positive environmental results. This cookbook can be enhanced in ways limited only by the creativity and the imagination of chefs like those listed who have already implemented some of these recipes in one form or another.

The Clean Air Act Advisory Committee has authored this set of recipes in part to reinforce the two messages set forth in our earlier work, "An Introductory Guide To Smart Implementation." Those messages are:

  • It is important that local citizens participate in a public process to implement these regulations.
  • These clean air regulations can be very expensive, but flexible options can greatly reduce their cost.

Take advantage of this flexibility and heed this call to include a diverse group of stakeholders in your efforts to implement these initiatives. Together, we can incorporate the vital ingredients to make a difference in our environment. We salute your efforts to implement voluntary programs. We welcome your "recipes" to share with others.
