State environmental agencies, organized through the Environmental Council of States (ECOS) Exit EPA Disclaimer, and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have formed the State/EPA Information Management Workgroup (IMWG). Composed of senior leaders from EPA and state environmental agencies, the IMWG has initiated an approach to address joint information management.

Through the IMWG, the states and EPA are committed to a partnership to build locally and nationally accessible, cohesive, and coherent environmental information systems. These systems will ensure both the public and regulatory agencies have access to the information needed to document environmental performance, understand environmental conditions, and make sound decisions that ensure environmental protection.

For more information on the IMWG's purpose, see the History and Vision and Current Activities pages.
