The Scranton Limited Short Train Excursion gives visitors a chance to experience riding in an historic commuter car (the cars were built between 1915 and 1935) behind either a vintage steam locomotive or an historic diesel-electric locomotive. The trip gives a good overall view of the railroad yards, includes a ride across Bridge 60 (built 1912) and a short trip along the former main line.

For 2009, this half-hour train ride will be offered from April 19 through December 5, generally on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. We will also operate this ride on Mondays and Tuesdays (with a diesel locomotive) in July and August 2009 ONLY; the rides will not operate on Mondays and Tuesdays during the rest of the 2009 season. For the monthly schedule, visit our Guided Tours page.

We are planning to operate with a historic diesel locomotive (not steam) on Wednesdays (and other days when equipment and/or staffing is not available), and with a historic steam locomotive on Thursdays - Sundays.

There is a fee - in addition to the Park Entrance Fee - for the Scranton Limited Short Train Excursion of $3.00 per person, ages 6 and above. All children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult while at the Park and aboard train rides and excursions. Sorry, the America the Beautiful Interagency Passes do not cover this fee.

The interior of the Lackawanna Station includes Italian and Austrian marble, and a stained-glass ceiling.

Did You Know?
The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad opened a new passenger depot in 1908. It included a Tiffany stained-glass ceiling, Italian and Austrian marble, and a terrazzo marble floor. You can learn more about this, and other, railroad architectural landmaraks at Steamtown NHS.
