A crucial component of EPA's work to protect human health and safeguard the natural environment is ensuring that manufactured products such as pesticides are as safe as possible. Presently, EPA's research on Safe Pesticides and Safe Products has four main goals:
- produce test methods to help EPA set priorities for analysis of risks and to improve interpretation of exposure, hazard, and the dose-response information;
- build a scientific foundation for risk-assessment methods to protect wildlife;
- provide the science to reduce the risks posed by the products of biotechnology; and
- advance the scientific understanding of novel or newly discovered hazards such as perfluoroalkyl acids and high potency herbicides.
This research into the safety of pesticides and other products is conducted in collaboration with and in support of EPA's Office of Prevention, Pesticides, and Toxic Substances (OPPTS).
