Many of the substances regulated by the EPA are poisonous to both humans and the environment. Some of the most common cases of human poisoning arise from pesticides, lead and mercury. EPA issues strict guidelines for the registration and labeling of pesticides. The Agency also provides information intended to help prevent poisoning from lead, mercury and other substances in the home. Through its Integrated Risk Information System and other resources, the EPA makes available information on the effects of exposure to various chemicals as well as best treatment procedures.
