Rosario - Flag Memorial at Night

Strategically located on the Parana River, about 190 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, Rosario combines beautiful natural scenery and a variety of cultural offerings with entertainment for young and old alike and a rich architectural heritage.

With one million inhabitants, Rosario is the third largest city in Argentina and a main agricultural hub.  It has also become a great commercial and industrial center, a major railroad terminal and the shipping center for northeastern Argentina.  Connectivity is excellent because Rosario is located in the center of the optical fiber ring network of the main telecommunications providers.  The Rosario Technology Cluster is the first technology-production complex in Argentina that links companies, universities as well as provincial and municipal governments.

Rosario’s tourism industry has experienced impressive growth in recent years and the city has become the second most important organizer of conferences, seminars, and events in Argentina.

Rosario's Leading Industries

Rosario is the center of a vibrant local agricultural economy. As such, it is one of the key cities in South America’s MERCOSUR common market (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay). Rosario is not only in the crossroad of intra-MERCOSUR land freight transportation (Brazil > Argentina > Chile), but also the hub for grain moving from the farms to the silos, plants or ports.  Rosario is also an ever-growing industrial center, with companies predominantly active in the following sectors: food processing (beef treatment, oil mills), textile, automotive, agricultural machinery, petrochemical, iron and steel, and machine tools.

Tourism in Rosario

Located on the waterfront of the Parana River, a mere four-hour drive from Buenos Aires, Rosario offers visitors a wide variety of options to enjoy during the day and also after dark. From white-sand beaches and parks to historic sites and museums, to restaurants and shopping, to discos, pubs, and theaters.

The Parque Independencia (Independence Park) and La Florida Beach are popular among sun worshippers, nature lovers, cyclists, horse riders, and water sports fans.  The city’s shopping malls are among the best in Latin America.

The National Flag Memorial (Monumento Nacional a la Bandera) stands on the riverbank marking the site where the Argentine flag was raised for the first time. Its impressive architecture symbolizes a ship sailing to the future. The Pasaje Juramento, right next to it, is a splendid path where you can fully appreciate world-renowned Lola Mora’s sculpture art.

If you’re a history buff, do take walking tours through Rosario’s historic neighborhoods.  The following are well worth a visit:

Pichincha: Visit the antique fairs, the old train station Rosario North or have a drink at any of the many side-walk cafes.

Fisherton: Beautiful old English-style mansions have been wonderfully preserved in what was originally a railroad town.

Alberdi: Enjoy the elegance of late 19th Century architecture. Villa Hortensia, seat of Rosario’s North District, is just one of the many historic mansions that make your visit worthwhile.

Saladillo: The first country estates, some of which still remain, chose this area. It has also been the center of the meat packing and processing industry since the beginning of the 20th Century.

With the lush nature, vibrant riverside, first-rate restaurants, exciting nightlife, beautiful architecture to name a few - it's easy to have a great time in Rosario.
