100 Percent Day (Computer Collection/Reuse Event)
Throughout the U.S.
The Computer Reuse Coalition is sponsoring 100 Percent Day, an effort to collect 100,000 PC's throughout the U.S. to increase the public's involvement in reusing working computers, when possible, prior to recycling. On average, 100,000 PCs are taken out of service on a daily basis in the United States. If just 10% of those computers were refurbished, more than 3.5 million computers could be provided to schools and low income families by the end of the decade. The Coalition hopes to quantify any April 21st or April 22nd Earth Day electronic-Waste collection events at www.100PercentDay.org. UN World Environment Day 2005
World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. The World Environment Day theme selected for 2006 is Deserts and Desertification and the slogan is Don't Desert Drylands! The slogan emphasizes the importance of protecting drylands, which cover more than 40% of the planet's surface.
