The park is supported by the Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields.

The park is supported by The Friends of Wilderness Battlefield. Their members operate Ellwood Manor for the park and help with maintenance on the Wilderness Battlefield.

In addition to the Friends groups, there are several organizations that provide educational programs that supplement park programs.
These groups include:
Spotsylvania Battlefield Education Association. This has been organized to research, analyze and disseminate information regarding the battle fought at Spotsylvania Court House and its environs. Emphasis is on areas not contained within the boundaries of the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.

Rappahannock Valley Civil War Round Table. This group supports battlefield preservation and presents monthly programs on the Civil War.

 

There are also several preservation organizations that actively support preservation in the Fredericksburg area.
These include:
American Battlefield Protection Protection. A branch of the National Park Service dedicated to protecting American battlefields

Central Virginia Battlefield Trust. This is a Fredericksburg based preservation group that has made several important battlefield purchases.

Civil War Preservation Trust. This is the largest nation wide Civil War preservation group.

Spotsylvania Preservation Foundation. This group promotes historic preservation in Spotsylvania County.

Historic Fredericksburg Foundation. This group promotes preservation in the city of Fredericksburg.
