Many unit histories and rosters can be found on the internet. If you are doing research on units or individuals, click here. This will take you to portals which contain a wealth of historical and genealogical information. Furthermore, each of these sites contains numerous additional links for even more information. The information includes unit histories, books about units and individuals, rosters, census records, cemetery records, battles, photographs, preservation groups and all kinds of genealogical information.

* National Park Service Civil War Website.

* Central Virginia Battlefield Trust A Fredericksburg based preservation group that has made several important battlefield purchases.
* Civil War Preservation Trust The Civil Trust as merged with The Association for the Preservation of Civil War Sites to form this new organization.
* American Battlefield Protection Program A branch of the National Park Service dedicated to protecting American battlefields
* Rappahannock Valley Civil War Round Table This group supports battlefield preservation and presents monthly programs on the Civil War.
* The Friends of Wilderness Battlefield This group supports the park's efforts to preserve and interpret the Wilderness Battlefield.
* Fredericksburg, Stafford County, and Spotsylvania County Historical Markers. This website provides extended research on the subjects of local Virginia Historical Highway Markers.
* Free-Lance Star This is the Civil War section of the online Fredericksburg newspaper. There are articles from past newspapers, Civil War discussion bulletin boards, preservation news and much more.
* Spotsylvania Preservation Foundation This group promotes historic preservation in Spotsylvania County.
* Central Rappahannock Regional Library History Point. The library has placed online a database for the Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery as well as other local records.
* Civil War Richmond This is an extremely detailed website on Richmond during the war including lots of photographs and information on the hospitals and prisons that you can find no where else on the web.
* Valley of the Shadow Project This is an extremely comprehensive website done by the University of Virginia focusing on two counties in the Shenandoah Valley, one in Virginia and one in Pennsylvania. It examines events in the two counties as well as civilians, soldiers and military units from those counties.
* Civil War Battlefields in Virginia This site includes links to other Civil War Battlefields in Virginia including Brandy Station, Cedar Mountain, North Anna, Mine Run and Todd's Tavern.

* Civil War Traveler This is a good website for people interested in visiting battlefields in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
* The American Civil War This site is run by South Dakota State University. The website is another very comprehensive page of links to many aspects of the Civil War
* The American Civil War Homepage This is the University of Tennessee's website that is similar to the two listed above. It is a portal to hundreds of links to websites on the Civil War.
* Shotgun's Home of the American Civil War While not as comprehensive to all aspects of the Civil War as the four listed above, this website is a very good portal to websites on the battles, biographical sketches, medicine, The Confederacy, naval history, essays on the war, discussion group, etc.
