EPA MODEL WORKER COURSE: RESIDENTIAL LEAD-BASED PAINT ABATEMENT
March 2004

Below are links for the revised English version and the newly released Spanish version of the lead-based paint abatement worker model training course materials. For each language, there are three documents: the instructor manual (in pdf format), the student manual (in pdf format), and the overheads (in MS PowerPoint format).

EPA revised the English version to improve the clarity of the materials. The Agency gave special emphasis to distinguishing between regulatory requirements (signified by the use of the words "must," "will," and "shall") and recommended practices (signified by the word "should"). The changes also address confusion concerning the differences between dust hazard standards and dust clearance standards. The revised version includes other minor editorial changes as well.

The Spanish version is a translation of the updated English version. EPA anticipates that availability of these training materials in Spanish will greatly expand training opportunities in many communities.

Training firms accredited based on the model training course should replace the existing materials with the revised English version by September 1, 2004. Accredited training firms that use their own curricula should update their courses to reflect the changes in the EPA materials. Firms accredited to offer Spanish language training should also start offering the new Spanish version of the abatement worker training by September 1, 2004.
