News From the Field Arctic Climate Study Reveals Impact of Industrial Soot

Scientists from the Desert Research Institute and their collaborators have determined that Northern Hemisphere industrial pollution resulted in a seven-fold increase in black carbon in Arctic snow during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Joe McConnell and Ross Edwards led the research, developing a new technique to quantify the impact of black carbon on Arctic climate forcing.
