NMFS Closes Specified Fisheriesin the GOA The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing specified fisheries in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA), effective 0001, Alaska local time, January 1, 2001, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS. Thornyhead rockfish entire GOA These actions are necessary to prevent exceeding the amounts of groundfish available for harvest on January 1, 2001, as specified by section 209(c)(3) of Public Law 106-554. As of the effective date of this closure, the maximum retainable bycatch amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip. These closures are in effect for the 2001 fishing year until further notice. |
