Describe your Organization’s Five-Year Goals Related to Pesticide Risk Reduction
Several years ago we adopted a policy of treating outside the home instead of inside. We are continuing this protocol and expanding it to thwart the excessive use of pesticides inside the home. We have developed written procedures on the steps of IPM - Inspection, Identification, Recommendation, Treatment, and Evaluation. All of our technicians (all 96) are trained to use exclusion before treatment, to inspect first, to use low impact formulations, and Reduced Risk products. We use these only when needed and hope to continue this policy into the field of lawn, and termite control.
What do you envision doing (broadly) to try to resolve your major issues?
The newer products such as indoxacarb work well on roaches and ants and is in the reduced risk product line. We also like some of the newer neonicotinoid such as acetamiprid, and thiamethoxam, we are still using some of the soil-borne fungus materials such as abamectin. We also employ exclusion techniques on all our rodent issues and stress good sanitation.
Goal 1 and Tactics
To change the perception in the minds of the public that our industry is truly a progressive industry, that is moving forward with both safety and the environment in mind. We have started marketing TV advertising spots to this end and are in the process of educating all of our CSRs and salespeople.
Goal 2 and Tactics
To educate all of our people to the same high standards and ideals that our management team has. We plan on doing this through in-house programs taught by our Board Certified Entomologist.
Goal 3 and Tactics
Keeping up with a quickly moving industry through working with major and minor components of our industry. We will do this by participating in EUPs brought to us by major manufacturers such as DuPont, BASF, and Nisus all of which we have done work for before. We will also work with minor companies like the use of steam machines for clean and effective bed bug management in the hospitality area.
