Strategic Approach
Modern Pest Services is a 3rd generation family owned and operated company. The company strives to be a leader in the industry. Success is built on continuous improvement of services and service programs and commitment to quality. All of our service professionals are fully trained and licensed and we encourage all team members to continue their education and offer incentives for team members who complete correspondence courses through Purdue University, American Institute of Baking, etc. We believe well trained service professionals are more efficient at solving pest problems, while at the same time they are able to provide our clients with satisfactory pest management results with less pesticide usage.
Activities for the Coming Year
Activity 1
Issuing of new bait guns to all EcoCare (Commercial) Service Pro’s and changing application equipment from a 1 gal. compressed air sprayer to a 24 oz. sprayer designed to be used for crack and crevice applications.
How does this activity reduce pesticide risk?
The new bait guns are more precise in their applications and provide better control of how much material is applied and where with less off target applications. The 24 oz. hand sprayer is designed to provide small amounts of insecticides to targeted area utilizing a crack and crevice application, which should reduce the total amount of broad spectrum liquid insecticide being applied.
How will you measure the risk reduction gained from this activity?
Measurement of the risk reduction achieved though these changes will be measured by comparing amounts of products applied this year as compared to the previous year. Adjustments will be made to year to date figures to factor in growth for the present year vs. the previous year.
Activity 2
Modern has long practiced the principles of Integrated Pest Management. To that end we have been utilizing various type of mechanical rodent control devices for many years. Based on use of multiple catch rodent traps vs. rodent bait stations we have determined that each mechanical trap in our clients accounts replaces a set amount of rodenticide that would have been applied to provide our clients with the same level of rodent control. We will continue to replace rodenticide placements with mechanical devices.
How does this activity reduce pesticide risk?
Each multiple catch trap in place reduces the dependence on rodenticide applications.
How will you measure the risk reduction gained from this activity?
We will measure the total reduction in the lbs. of rodenticide placed this year vs. the previous year, adjusting for growth.
Activity 3
Several years ago we developed our residential HomeCare service programs based on the principals of an IPM program, we have since continued to fine tune our service offering for our homecare clients to be an environmentally friendly program that utilizes EPA 25(b)exempt products for interior treatments whenever feasible. Currently an estimated 75%+ of our residential services are performed using 25(b) exempt products.
How does this activity reduce pesticide risk?
We believe that the use of exempt and reduced risk products, as defined by EPA reduces the potential risk that would be associated with traditional pesticide products.
How will you measure the risk reduction gained from this activity?
We will measure the total volumes of EPA exempt and reduced risk products applied this year versus the amounts applied last year. We will measure the total reduction of traditional insecticides applied this year compared to the total for the previous year, adjusted for growth.
